DescriptionLocation The average person invests 70% of their waking hours in work. With that much time given to work daily, work culture is the largest influencer of people in the world. Unfortunately, this influence is largely negative. Pick any survey about employee satisfaction and you discover that between two-thirds and three-fourths of workers respond “dissatisfied” to “very dissatisfied” about their work culture. This loss of engagement is without doubt the greatest debilitating economic factor on a global scale today. The long tail of this dominant dissatisfaction is evident daily regardless of whether you live in a metro area or rural community. Euphemisms such as “The Great Resignation” dominate news cycles with record numbers of workers walking away from one work culture in hopes that the next one is better. They discover the same culture disappointments in the next position, leading to “The Great Regret.” So rather than take that risk again, “Quiet Quitting” becomes the preferred response. We are The Working Dead. The Working Dead movement spills over from work and cascades into our homes. Anti-anxiety and anti-depressant prescriptions rose precipitously, 30% at the height of the pandemic. Fentanyl overdose deaths increased to epidemic proportions according to some health professionals. Suicide is the leading cause of teen deaths. There’s nothing quiet about our quitting. We’re taking our work home with us. The results are fatal. That’s why this course, Small Hinges Swing Big Doors, is so important now. There is a better way. The small hinge actions you take today to create a positive work culture will have a dramatic and immediate effect on some very big doors. The large door that your small hinge actions can swing may be to save someone’s marriage or their child’s life. That’s a pretty big swing. If that’s too much for you to get your head wrapped around, then do this: pick one of the many positive work culture actions you’ll learn about in this course and do it. That’s right, do one thing from this course that seems less like a BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goal) and more like a DOT (Do One Thing). After all, you can’t save the whole world. BHAGs are too Big, Hairy, and Audacious for most of us. Those hinges are just too big to swing. However, you can swing a small hinge. You can Do One Thing (DOT) that improves your work culture incrementally; action by action. That’s what’s different about this course. You just want to know the DOTs in this course work. You desire to make a difference in your culture quickly. The small hinge actions you’re about to see work. They’ve worked since 2011 when we first started coaching organizations to Work Positive. Sure, they’re based on the best organizational development, sociology and psychology research available. Yes, these actions are time-tested since the Great Depression. The big difference in this course is you can choose your small hinge action aka DOT and go do it. Immediately. And the transformation begins. So, pick a DOT, any DOT, in this course. Do One Thing that’s a small hinge action. There’s at least one with every video. Then watch as some big doors swing your work culture from negative to positive. Your DOT swings big doors further and wider than you can imagine right now. Which is okay, because if you paused to think too long about the size of the work in front of you, you’d freeze up. Paralysis by analysis. The long tail of the culture transformation task ahead of you is just too much BHAG to fathom. So just DOT it. Do. One. Thing. It’s your small hinge. Trust the big doors will swing. The company productivity will move. People will move. Profits will follow upwards. Your work culture transformation can and will succeed. We create this course for three reasons: 1. To transform your thinking about who can create a positive work culture that increases productivity and profits. A week hasn’t gone by in the last 20+ years of the course creator, Dr. Joey Faucette’s, work as a culture architect that he hasn’t heard someone say something like: “That’s not in my job description” or “It won’t do any good if (insert someone else’s name here) isn’t on board.” The employees are waiting on the owner. The owner is looking for the perfect employees. Waiting and looking don’t work as culture strategies. The truth is this: Creating a positive work culture is everyone’s business. Yes, especially yours. 2. To put proven positive work culture tools within easy reach of your work. Culture transformation isn’t brain surgery or rocket science despite what some people want you to think. Do you need some guidance or mentor coaching? Of course, you’re walking uphill both ways in a foot of snow. You’ve got this. This course with its 44 videos and learning prompts are small hinge actions that open the door to a positive work culture. They’ve worked since The Great Depression which was the worst global economic challenge ever. They still work today. 3. To inspire you to raise your hand to stop the inertia of the “work sucks” crowd and point them in the direction of easy, simple ways to join the Work Positive movement. Somebody has to have the courage to say, “This far and no more.” There are too many Working Dead just drawing paychecks today for us to ignore this travesty any longer. If not you and me, then who will stop this madness? Who is this course for? First, most Human Resources professionals today can benefit from these small hinge, “Do One Thing” (DOT) actions that reverse the decline of engagement and satisfaction. Most of the HR professionals around the world are tired of being relegated to an inferior support role as form jockeys and policy cops. They long to be elevated to a leadership role of creating a positive work culture that increases productivity and profits. They dream of influencing teams that attract top talent and reduce turnover. Second, this course is for the Learning and Development (L&D) and Training and Development (T&D) professionals who are hungry for actionable tools to hand their co-workers. Those who show even a whiff of interest in being a part of the “work sucks” solution need some tools. They’re eager to move beyond performance gap programs that assume head knowledge is enough to align employee behavior with company KPIs. They seek something for colleagues to do that has a high, effective ROI. Third, this course is for all the small business owners trying to figure out how to keep the doors open while struggling with The Great Resignation, The Great Regret, and Quiet Quitting. They’ve never faced anything like this before and frankly don’t know how to best respond. Here’s what they do know: they’re tired of complaining employees who are more interested in gossip, or who offended whom, or anything else but being productive at work. Such owners say: “If it weren’t for people problems, I wouldn’t have any problems.” Yet, gnawing in the back of their mind is the reality that they are a part of the problem. They’ve outrun their headlights. They know it. But don’t want to admit it out loud. What content is in this course? There are five modules. Each module is about a core practice essential to creating a positive work culture that connects people and profits. Module 1 is about the Perceive core practice. This is the mental dynamic of your Work Positive culture. It features Dr. Joey’s conversations with Dr. Bob Johansen and they’re all about mindset. Dr. Bob is a futurist. You discover how to think out ten years and come back with next best actions for today that create a positive work culture. Module 2 is about the Conceive core practice. This is the relational dynamic of your Work Positive culture. Joe Sacchetti and Dr. Joey have some fascinating conversations about specific actions you can take today that enhance and improve team and customer relationships. Module 3 is about the Believe core practice. Dr. Joey talks with his friend Mitchell Levy about what it takes to work from credibility today which engages you and your teammates very deeply with your daily tasks. Module 4 features Dr. Joey’s conversations with his fellow culture architect, David Friedman. They talk about what you can do—the Achieve core practice—at work to design your own unique positive work culture. David’s 8 steps are solid, practical strategies that make a positive work culture happen as you work. The fifth and final module is number 5 with Jim Palmer. Jim brings a real serve first heart to his work. The Receive core practice is the ethical dynamic of your Work Positive culture and touches teammates, customers, and vendors alike in amazing ways with gratitude and the Law of Reciprocity.
