By the end of this 20-hour live intensive, participants will be able to: Communication 1. Identify the physiological and behavioral markers of escalation in another person and intervene before a dispute hardens. 2. Deploy tactical de-escalation scripts that lower the temperature of a hostile exchange and reframe aggressive language into workable business interests. 3. Execute the Inquiry Shift — a structured questioning sequence that moves a disputant from emotional reactivity toward rational problem-solving. Relationship Management 4. Select the appropriate resolution framework for a given dispute using the Selection Matrix, and justify that selection against goal, risk, and capacity for logic. 5. Facilitate interest-based conversations that move parties past fixed positions to the underlying organizational need. 6. Apply structured protocols for behavioral corrections, performance interventions, and high-stakes separations while preserving professional boundaries and documentation integrity. Leadership & Navigation / Ethical Practice 7. Apply self-regulation techniques that allow a practitioner to remain the steady point in an escalated room and to prevent emotional contagion across a team. Consultation / Global & Cultural Effectiveness 8. Design resolution practices for hybrid and distributed teams that address digital friction and the loss of context in written communication. Business Acumen / Risk 9. Assess conflict as an organizational risk exposure — including retaliation indicators and grievance escalation — and recommend early interventions that reduce the conflict tax of turnover, lost productivity, and formal complaints.

20.00 SHRM PDCs | 3-Day Live Virtual Intensive | September 15–17, 2026 | 10:00 AM ET Who this is for: HR professionals, Employee Relations specialists, and Risk Managers who are the ones called when a situation is already escalated — and who want a repeatable method rather than instinct. What you'll be able to do differently Most conflict training explains what conflict is. This program is built around what you say — the specific language that moves a hostile conversation toward resolution, the framework that tells you which approach a given dispute actually calls for, and the self-regulation that lets you stay steady while you do it. Participants leave with the Tactical Script Bank, the Resolution Spectrum, and the Selection Matrix — tools they can open on a Tuesday morning when the situation is live. How the 20 hours work This is a live, instructor-led cohort. Every hour is accounted for and every hour is coached: Live instruction and practice (13.5 hours) — three days with a live instructor, working through Representative Practice Scenarios drawn from real HR and Risk situations: escalated separations, peer disputes, hybrid-team friction, multi-party investigations. Applied work between sessions (6.5 hours) — participants draft their own scripts, build their own frameworks, and bring their own scenarios. This work is reviewed with the instructor in the next live session. It is not a completion checkbox. It is the reason the practice sessions have depth. The three days Day 1 — Foundations & Resolution. The anatomy of escalation, the Inquiry Shift, and the Resolution Spectrum. De-escalation practice. Day 2 — Representative Practice Scenarios. A full day of live practice with structured feedback: framework selection, script deployment, and debrief on each. Day 3 — Leadership, Resilience & Capstone. Self-regulation, digital friction in hybrid teams, and a capstone integration lab.
