1. Course Name / Activity Name Give Yourself Permission: Prepare. Decide. Survive. 2. PDCs 1.00 (1 hour of instructional time) 3. Intended Audience HR Professionals / All Employees (or “General Business” / “Risk Management” if those options appear) 4. Learning Objectives By the end of this one-hour session, participants will be able to: Identify the three-step vigilant mindset process (See Something – Give Yourself Permission – Report) and the most common behavioral warning signs of potential workplace violence. Explain the primary psychological barriers that prevent early reporting (diffusion of responsibility, fear of backlash, normalization bias, and freeze of moral courage) and why explicit self-permission overcomes them. Apply the Prepare–Decide–Survive options (evacuate, secure/conceal, or counter as last resort) by selecting the appropriate immediate action when given a realistic active-threat scenario. 5. Activity Description Give Yourself Permission: Prepare. Decide. Survive. is a one-hour interactive training that equips participants in operational environments (warehouses, distribution centers, truck yards, and recycling facilities) with a vigilant mindset and the critical mental shift of giving themselves permission to act. Through facilitated discussion of real-world warning signs, common behavioral barriers to reporting, and the Prepare–Decide–Survive framework, learners build the readiness to report concerns early and respond decisively when seconds count—preventing escalation and protecting lives. The program directly supports the SHRM BASK Risk Management functional area by establishing practical strategies to address workplace violence. 6. Recommended SHRM BASK Selections Primary (must select at least one): Workplace → Risk Management Strong secondary options (select if allowed): Leadership → Leadership & Navigation Leadership → Ethical Practice Interpersonal → Relationship Management
