The Brain in Conflict & Connection is a 6-hour course consisting of six modules designed to be completed at your own pace. A brain hijacked by conflict has the potential to wreak havoc on relationships and workgroups, and can have a detrimental impact to productivity, collaboration, and innovation. To be able to de-escalate conflict and manage emotions, we need the tools to be able to recognize and navigate “the conflict brain.” This session will provide insight into the critical role that the brain plays in conflict, emotion, collaboration, and connection. The relationship between the brain and decision making, empathy, problem solving, bias and listening will be explored. Learn how instinctual responses can be tempered by connecting these important elements with useful strategies that can be applied to any conflict. Methods of Instruction: The instructor will employ a variety of teaching methods including lecture, written assignments, recommended readings, videos, and recommended group discussion in the Community of Practice. This Course Includes Six Learning Modules Module 1 — The Nervous System: A Primer This module will take you approximately 1 hour to complete, including video and supplemental exercises. In this module, you will learn how leaders can leverage the latest brain science to improve communication and manage conflict, the basic nervous system structures and processes, and the role of neurochemicals in conflict and connection. Module 2 — Hijacked! This module will take you approximately 1 hour to complete, including video and supplemental exercises.
