Description of Course Module 1 We offer comprehensive HIPAA training for employers who provide a group health plan, as health plans are considered covered entities under HIPAA. In Module 1, we cover the fundamentals of the Privacy Rule and Breach Notification Rule. Topics include: the history of HIPAA, covered entities under HIPAA, the definition of business associates, the significance of Protected Health Information (PHI), the importance of appointing a Privacy Officer, the "five rights" under HIPAA, clarifications provided by HITECH and the Omnibus rules, and three actual cases highlighting what to avoid. Under Breach Notification, we detail what constitutes a breach, the timeframes for notification, and the roles of the Privacy Officer.
