People with disabilities, like anyone else, encounter the criminal justice system as defendants, suspects, incarcerated individuals, victims, parents, and witnesses. The combination of disability and former incarceration is a significant challenge to an individual seeking employment. Persons with disabilities statistically are more prominent in prison populations than in general populations. In addition, a person with a disability has fewer job opportunities. The same is true for formerly incarcerated individuals. Furthermore, a criminal record can prevent people from obtaining housing, higher education, and/or credit. Formerly incarcerated individuals need an opportunity to succeed. Finally, society and the economy benefit from their contributions. This 4-week online course is offered four times a year beginning in March, June, September, and December. The cost is $75.00. Registration for each course will open in the month prior to training. Earn professional development credits (CE units, CRCs, PGP hours) upon course completion. The course takes approximately 5 hours to complete. Course module content includes: 1. Key Terms and Rates of Incarceration 2. Key Challenges Facing Formerly Incarcerated Individuals Seeking Employment 3. Barriers and Effective Solutions 4. Career Planning and Educational Credentialing for Employment 5. Obtaining and Maintaining a Job 6. Building Trust and Rapport Upon enrolling, you will receive instructions and the link to Canvas. Note: When you register, you'll receive an email invitation. Be sure to accept that invitation, or Canvas will not allow you to open the course modules. Trainees can move through content modules at their own pace within the course timeframe. Trainees are allowed to finish the course prior to its conclusion date.
