Workshop 1: Navigating Conflicting Mindsets: Engaging Skillfully in Dialogue Across Divides, Kenmore, Washington
Email Details

This workshop prepares participants to engage constructively when conversations become tense, polarized, or emotionally charged—at work and beyond. Participants learn why disagreements escalate, how fear and assumptions shape reactions, and what helps people feel heard even when views differ sharply. Using realistic scenarios drawn from today’s social, political, and workplace dynamics, the session provides practical tools for slowing conflict, asking clarifying questions, and staying grounded under pressure. What participants can take away from this workshop: Recognize what drives conflict in difficult conversations Identify how assumptions, fear, and lived experience influence communication across differences. Apply practical dialogue techniques to engage disagreement respectfully, reduce escalation, and keep conversations productive in high-pressure situations.

When conversations at work, or elsewhere, become tense, polarized or emotionally charged, how do you engage constructively? What do you do if the polarization is with a team lead or supervisor? Do you lean in or do you silently avoid the conversation? What do you do if a colleague is posting inappropriate messages on social media? How do you help someone feel heard when their views differ sharply from yours? Have you encountered situations that were difficult to navigate? What did you do that was effective, or not? How do you de-escalate disagreements, deal with assumptions, and address fears? How do dialogue tools help in such situations? What are the skills you need to dialogue effectively?
