Maximum enrollment per class for a single policy is four students, any enrollment exceeding this policy may be cancelled. Who should attend: Employers and individuals that use and store hazardous chemicals. This course will cover what to do at the Awareness level if an accidental spill or release of a chemical occurs. Company emergency response plans should contain sections on procedures to follow in the event of a chemical spill. The Awareness level training will give the individual who witnesses a chemical spill or release the knowledge of: Understanding the presence of hazardous materials in chemical accidents. Using basic scene safety and perimeter control to prevent accidental exposure. Beginning the notification process to internal and/or external response teams Utilizing principles and resources on the basics using tools like the North American Emergency Response Guidebook (NAERG). After this course, you will be able to: Recognize the limitations of the awareness level role. Distinguish if a spill or release of hazardous materials has occurred through an understanding common labeling in storage and transportation, and container shape. Appraise a situation using basic size up techniques from a distance and know how to protect themselves and others. Organize pertinent information for responders as part of the notification process. Evaluate if the spill is considered incidental under your company’s emergency response plan. Note: Students who attend this course should have received hazard communication training. How you will be assessed: Satisfactory participation of instructor-led and student-centered exercises. And/or an end of course test using provided materials. Please read the below information. VTCs are instructor led and will offer the opportunity for interaction and participation that is comparable to the in-person class. These classes offer the same continuing education units (CEUs). In order to attend a VTC, you must: (1) have internet access, (2) have a computer with microphone and speaker set-up utilizing a headset or other low feedback system, (3) download WebEx player before entering training, and (4) have a working email address in your BWC Learning Center account to ensure we are able to contact you with details including the WebEx URL. iPads, Android tablets, and cell phones have limited WebEx functionality and we DO NOT recommend their use for virtual training. To ensure that you receive credit for your attendance, you must: (1) be in the virtual classroom for the entire scheduled time, (2) participate in the activities during the virtual class, and (3) complete and obtain a passing knowledge assessment score within 2 days after class. Failure to do any of the following might be cause for a student incompletion. Additionally, your BWC Learning Center registration must match your WebEx registration to be provided credit. Special anomalies can be discussed with your BWC host if someone registered a student but was not person to attend class. If not discussed with the host when there is no WebEx time for a BWC Learning Center assessment for a VTC, the assumption is the student did not take class. Please contact dshcc@bwc.state.oh.us for any issues or concerns.
