Emerging Leadership is an 8.5 hour course consisting of 6 modules designed to be completed at your own pace. The Emerging Leaders course is a foundational course for first-time managers and leaders. This course is designed to empower new and emerging leaders with the knowledge and skills to build well-functioning, higher-performing teams, including learning how to leverage their strengths, establish team objectives, inspire and motivate a cross-generational team, optimize team performance, and provide coaching and feedback that fosters growth. Methods of Instruction: The instructor will employ a variety of teaching methods including lecture, experiential activities, written assignments, and recommended group discussion in the Community of Practice. This Course Includes Six Learning Modules Module 1—Leadership 101 In Module 1, we will learn basic leadership skills and tools needed to be successful such as understanding your talent, strengths and weaknesses, achieving goals, time management, agile leadership and soft leadership skills. Module 2—Communicating with Confidence In Module 2, we will learn about the importance of confidence as a leader. We will explore what confidence looks like behaviorally, and how to build confidence. This module will also highlight how social constructs have shaped confidence competencies among different genders. Module 3—Leading a Meeting In Module 3, we will learn the skills and competencies associated with leading effective meetings that foster collaboration and creativity. We will explore how to create psychological safety in meetings where people are able to be brave and courageous and how to lead with confidence and manage challenging behaviors that often show up in meetings. Module 4—Employee Recognition In Module 4, we will make the business case for employee recognition, explore how different generations view recognition differently, and learn how to set up an employee recognition program. Module 5—Talent Development In Module 5, we will learn the importance of genuinely knowing your team and strategies for accomplishing this. We will learn the importance of one-on-one meetings and how to deliver a high-quality one-on-one. We will also explore how to deliver effective performance appraisals, how to prepare for those discussions, as well as how to deliver a performance improvement plan that truly leads to improved performance. Lastly, we will look at strategies for developing high-performing teams. Module 6—Managing Up & Sideways In Module 6, we will learn the concepts of managing up and sideways, and the challenges and benefits of both. We will learn how to develop a solutions-based mindset. Lastly, we will learn the difference between a mentor and a sponsor and why you need both
