Social & Emotional Intelligence is a 6-hour course consisting of six modules designed to be completed at your own pace over the course of six weeks. Social and emotional intelligence has been an important topic of discussion and study for the past several years and for good reason. A growing body of research indicates that individuals with a high level of emotional intelligence (called both EQ and EI) can see a positive impact on their personal and professional life. Those with higher emotional intelligence can communicate more effectively, build strong relationships with individuals and teams, manage conflict, and have more satisfaction and joy. Employees with higher EQs are promoted more often than those who lack emotional intelligence. It is also a determining factor on many hiring decisions. The good news is that with practice you can learn how to develop your emotional intelligence and you have taken the first step by enrolling in this course. Methods of Instruction: The instructor will employ a variety of teaching methods including lecture, written assignments, assigned readings, quizzes, and recommended group discussion in the Community of Practice. This Course Includes Six Learning Modules Module 1 — Understanding Emotional Intelligence Emotions affect not only how we feel but also how we behave. In other words, emotions are in the driver’s seat. You can choose to be a backseat passenger and let your emotions take you wherever, or you can learn how to navigate. This navigation begins with understanding the fundamentals around emotional intelligence. Module 2 — Self Awareness Before you can manage your emotions, you must first build your capacity to recognize and label them. This mindfulness process allows you to focus your attention on the present, which is crucial to developing your emotional intelligence. Module 3 — Managing Yourself Managing emotions allows you to see and choose your thoughts so you can plan or shift your response to situations for a positive outcome. This skill enables you to understand and compare your current results against the result you desire. Module 4 — Social Awareness We are inherently social creatures thriving on connection. Research shows that social connectedness allows for a positive feedback loop which increases our physical and mental well-being. Competency in social awareness around emotional intelligence is a tool for deeply connecting to one another and managing your environment. Module 5 — Managing Conflicts and Relationships Managing relationships is about improving your interactions with others so you relate and respond appropriately. This is particularly critical during crises where leaders must pivot rapidly and inspire others to manage conflicts, stay connected and build cohesive teams. Module 6 — Leading with Emotional Intelligence The most effective leaders build trust, develop rapport, show empathy, and inspire others to perform at their best. They also alleviate resistance to change and inspire excellence. A leader’s ability to accomplish this, and so much more, is embedded in their emotional intelligence.
