Participants will be able to: 1. Describe the recovery program, as it was outlined in Alcoholics Anonymous. 2. Describe AA’s official stance on several key issues. 3. Differentiate between what the Big Book says, and many commonly held mistaken beliefs about AA. (For example, many people believe that AA is anti-psychiatry, despite numerous references in Alcoholics Anonymous to seeking help from other quarters and not having a monopoly on helping alcoholics.) 3. Help people apply recovery principles found in the Big Book to their work and home lives.

The purpose of this home study course is to teach/remind professionals what Alcoholics Anonymous (AA's 'Big Book') really says about recovery. The test follows the text of the Big Book. To correctly answer the questions, the reader must know what Alcoholics Anonymous says about issues such as work, relationships, anger, and being around alcohol and other drugs. Professionals read from the Preface up to the Personal Stories in Alcoholics Anonymous. They take a 31-item test. If they answer 75% of the questions correctly, they are awarded four PDCs.
