DescriptionLocation Participants will engage in instructor-led discussion, talent assessment exercises, case-based scenarios, and practical application activities examining performance management as a strategic workforce and talent-management tool. Participants will evaluate how effective performance practices influence individual and organizational productivity, employee development, retention, succession readiness, workforce capability, and achievement of organizational objectives. Using scenarios representing underperformers, solid contributors, high performers, and employees whose engagement or performance trajectory is changing, participants will identify indicators of performance and talent risk and determine appropriate management responses. Participants will apply a differentiated performance-management framework to determine when employees require greater clarity and accountability, targeted development, recognition, expanded responsibility, or other interventions while maintaining consistent organizational performance standards. Through performance-management exercises, participants will practice coaching managers to provide specific, timely, and actionable feedback and establish measurable expectations, appropriate support, defined timelines, and accountability. Participants will evaluate strategies for improving underperformance as well as approaches for retaining and maximizing high-performing talent through development, recognition, stretch assignments, mentoring, cross-functional exposure, and increased responsibility aligned with organizational needs. Participants will also examine the appropriate division of responsibility between HR and operational leaders, identifying strategies for strengthening manager ownership of employee performance, development, and results while positioning HR as a strategic advisor rather than the primary manager of individual performance issues. The session will conclude with participants evaluating how individual and aggregate performance insights can inform broader organizational decisions related to talent development, succession planning, retention, workforce capability, critical-skill needs, and allocation of organizational resources. Participants will identify actionable opportunities to strengthen performance-management practices in ways that improve both workforce effectiveness and organizational performance.
