In this interactive workshop, participants will explore the structural drivers behind healthcare price variation and learn how to apply these insights to strengthen employer benefits strategy. Key lessons include: -Explain the key structural causes of healthcare price variation and opacity in the U.S. market -Identify where employer healthcare dollars are most likely to leak or become misaligned with value -Apply pricing considerations, like discounts, fees, and errors, to real-life claims data and scenarios -Formulate actionable next steps, based on insights and peer learnings, to increase transparency, accountability, and prudent financial stewardship

This session transforms healthcare pricing education into an interactive, game-show-style experience. Participants will compete in teams through a series of pricing challenges inspired by the well-known gameshow, "The Price Is Right." Attendees will be presented with healthcare claims scenarios based on real-world market data. Each scenario will have a short description and a billed amount. In teams, participants will have to guess the allowed amounts (i.e., the actual reimbursement) for these claims scenarios, and the closest guess without going over wins. Each round reveals the “real price,” followed by facilitated discussion on what drives variation, real employer case studies of similar scenarios, and insights on how employers can respond strategically. Rather than passive learning, participants engage directly with the data—testing assumptions, challenging norms, and confronting the disconnect between billed charges and actual value. The workshop emphasizes practical application, ensuring HR and benefits leaders walk away with tools and frameworks they can use immediately to better understand and protect their organization’s healthcare spend.
