Content of this training will include: - How the collective bargaining process works, including mandatory and permissive subjects of bargaining; - Uniformed and non-uniformed impasse resolution; - Past practices; and - Conduct that may constitute an unfair labor practice.

Training on what constitutes “just cause.” This training will cover: - The traditional elements of just cause; - Procedural requirements (e.g., Loudermill, Weingarten, Garrity); and - Strategies for navigating the disciplinary process.

Training on how to conduct personnel investigations. This training will cover: - Procedural considerations; - Potential legal issues arising from investigations; - Investigation documentation; and - Useful strategies in the investigative process.

Attendees will gain an understanding of: - What unlawful harassment is and isn’t; - The consequences of engaging in harassment, even if unintentional; and - Their right to complain about harassment without retaliation.

Training on the federal and state laws addressing protected leave entitlements. This webinar will provide an overview of: - The federal Family and Medical Leave Act; - Leave as a reasonable accommodation of a disability; - Washington state Paid Sick Leave and Paid Family Medical Leave; and - The range of other leave entitlements available to employees under state and federal laws.

Training on the laws prohibiting discrimination, harassment and retaliation. Topics will include: - An overview of discrimination laws; - A supervisor’s obligation to identify and address potential harassment; - An overview of disability discrimination and accommodation; and - Supervisor behaviors that can increase an employer’s exposure to these claims, as well as management practices that can help to reduce risk.

Training provides a comprehensive understanding of the Fair Labor Standards Act and Washington's Minimum Wage Act. Attendees will gain an understanding of the following: - Federal and state overtime laws, including recent developments; - Classifying workers as "exempt" or "nonexempt"; - In and outs of compensatory time; - Importance of proper recording and documentation of time records; - Meal and rest break requirements; and - Strategies for dealing with overtime and other wage problems.
