This workshop is designed to provide participants with a solid introductory understanding of how to undertake non-adversarial dispute resolution. It emphasizes conflict and communication theory as they relate to the peaceful and respectful resolution of conflict between individuals/co-workers, couples, family members and other group members. Within the context of a systematic 7-stage, negotiation model, participants will learn about the negotiator’s role, goals, strategies and techniques at each stage of the process. Participants will have the opportunity to apply this knowledge and improve their skills through intensive negotiation practice and conflict case analysis exercises.

This workshop is designed to provide participants with a solid introductory understanding of the dispute resolution/mediation process and how an impartial mediator should respond to problem behaviors by disputing parties during the conflict resolution process. It emphasizes conflict and communication theory as they relate to working with individuals, couples, families and groups within the context of a systematic 7 stage, facilitative mediation model. Participants will learn about the mediator's role, goals, strategies and techniques at each stage of the mediation process. The national standards of conduct for mediators are reviewed along with Ohio law as it relates to the practice of mediation. Ethical issues confronted by managers and helping professionals during the conflict resolution process are also addressed during the training. Participants will have the opportunity to apply this knowledge and improve their skills through intensive mediation practice and conflict case analysis exercises.
