Resources • Identify and list the resources available to employers who hire returning citizens • Probation and Parole (PNP). o Describe how employers can work with probation and parole (PNP) officers to ensure the success of the employee. Obtaining employment is a condition of both probation and parole. PNP officers can attest to an individual’s compliance, ensure employee is drug free and assist with any issues and/or answer any questions the employer may have. • Community Resources – o There are a wide variety of community resources that assist returning citizens in obtaining and keeping employment. Agencies like Louisiana Workforce Commission, Goodwill Industries, United Way, Parole Project, half-way houses, residential programs and local Sheriff’s office. Legal Liability Issues • List the current laws that affect the hiring of those with criminal backgrounds. • List the current laws that limit legal liability for hiring those with criminal backgrounds. • Provide a Q&A session with an experienced Labor & Employment Attorney. Customer, Employee Interactions • Describe the misconceptions about what a “returning citizen looks like.” • Demonstrate how to address co-worker concerns. • Demonstrate how to address customer / employee interactions.
