By the end of this training, participants will be able to: a. Explain the value of deep-knowing relationships among care partners b. Identify 3 barriers that prevent the implementation of person-directed care and identify at least 1 way to move past each barrier c. Name 3 of the 7 Eden Alternative Domains of Well-Being d. Explain how ageism and ableism intertwine with loneliness, helplessness and boredom and impact our health and well-being e. Identify 2 person-directed care concepts/ideas/approaches that they will integrate into their care partner role f. Name 2 tools in their Eden Toolkit that they can use to engage and educate others about The Eden Alternative

Participants will learn how to: · Decrease reliance on psychotropic medications; · Reframe “problem behaviors” as unmet needs; · Identify the limitations of our current approach to care for those living with dementia; · Improve communication and promote positive, affirming interactions; · Envision an “experiential model” for viewing dementia and recognize the importance of enhancing well-being for all; and · Apply the model to everyday situations and reduce challenging interactions through creative solutions that empower individuals to live full and positive lives.

As a result of this 5-day training, the participant will be able to... 1. Demonstrate the delivery of the 3-day, Certified Eden Associate Training 2. List ways to turn the training into action that transforms organization culture and improves the lives of the Elders impacted 3. Create a growth plan for their development as an Eden Educator, including who they need for support and how best to provide that support 4. Describe the business relationship they have with The Eden Alternative as an Eden Educator 5. Identify other Eden Alternative educational offerings they are inspired to teach

By the end of this training, participants will be able to: identify main areas where creating change is difficult in senior living communities (example: food and dining, life enrichment, care planning). They will be able to describe practical strategies to foster enthusiasm and promote cultural shifts among employees and residents towards person-directed care, identifying key factors contributing to successful adoption of new ideas. Learning from challenges and failures encountered during implementation, the learner will be able to extract actionable lessons and best practices applicable to participants' own communities.

As a result of this presentation the participant will be able to...a. Define individual trauma (content: understanding trauma, based on new brain science and exploring common presentations of unresolved trauma) b. List three symptoms of unresolved trauma (content: how trauma affects developmental stages of life, and exploring the physical and emotional consequences of unresolved trauma across the lifespan) c. Name three care approaches that support trauma healing (content: how person-directed and trauma-informed philosophies of care support trauma healing, and learning how current person-directed and strengths-based approaches support mental and emotional well-being) d. Give one example of trauma symptoms as a coping skill (content: briefly review definitions of trauma and trauma-informed care and explore trauma growth and human resilience) e. Name the six key principles of the trauma-informed care approach (content: trauma-informed care as culture change and the Key Principles of Trauma-Informed Care) f. Identify 3 action steps you will take in the next two weeks to advance trauma-informed care approaches at your organization (content: introduce evidence-based screening and assessment tools, provide an Action planning tool kit, identify barriers and opportunities, and identify resources and next steps)
